Lamu County rugby Sevens champions, Hindi High School, began their title defence in a way they would wish to quickly forget. They lost 29-0.

Hindi knew, just at they had done in last year's games, it would be the same script all over again when the county's Term 2A started yesterday at Mpeketoni School.

Pooled against Mpeketoni, Hindi had their plan; have their forward line flowing with ease, minimize on the turnovers and have a stout defence. In any case, they have been there and done that. They were the defending champions.

But their play showed a rather pale side from the one that lifted last year's title. Really, they hardly, offered any resistance. Their opponents were more organised and it showed in the final scoreline.

Hongwe, who are former champions, got off to a positive start, beating Witu Mjini 5-0, while Lake Kenyatta touched down once to hit Lamu Boys 5-0 in the other rugby match played under heavy rains.

In boys' handball, title holders Mpeketoni School sent strong signal after they won 19-5 in their opening match against Witu Mjini Secondary School.

In other boys’ handball matches, Witu Mjini defeated Lake Kenyatta 12-5, while Lamu Secondary defeated Majembeni 10-5.

In girls' handball, Lake Kenyatta struggled to overcome Witu Mjini 5-2 in a low-scoring match. Majembeni defeated Lake Kenyatta 2-1, while Hongwe beat Witu Secondary 4-2 in the other match.

In netball, Lamu Girls stamped their authority after they defeated Faze Girls 40-6. In another match, Lake Kenyatta beat Sacred Heart Girls 19-5.

In Kwale County, Kaya Tiwi School play Mwavumbo in the opening boys' handball match.
