Bitok: When in need of bright future, call on me

National women volleyball team coach Paul Bitok has said he will use his local and international connections to bring on board sponsors to support self-sponsored teams in the national volleyball league.

Bitok has been in Mombasa to seek votes ahead of the Kenya Volleyball Federation election set for June.

“We need to help the self-sponsored teams so that they can also grow,” said the former Rwanda national volleyball team coach.

“I have played professional volleyball in Croatia and Tunisia and time is rife for me to use my good name through sponsors to support clubs and tap talents,” said Bitok, who is seeking the KVF Deputy President seat.

The coach said he has done a lot as a player and coach and time has come for him to move to administration and pave way for upcoming coaches to take over duties at the national level.

“I have brought professionalism at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) women volleyball team and I want to transform this to other clubs,” said Bitok who is the technical director at the banker’s team.

The coach said he has been to several counties and realised that most of the clubs need sponsors for survival.

At the same time, Bitok said he will officially retire from his coaching role after the World Championships, which will be co-hosted by Netherlands and Poland in August.

He says he is in the process of grooming possible coaches who will take over from him for a smooth transition.

“There will be no vacuum when I leave Malkia Strikers since there are good coaches in the country, who are capable of taking the team to higher heights,” said the former Kapsabet Boys High School student.
