KCB Rugby, Kabras Sugar, Menengai Oilers and Daystar Falcons have booked their places in the Driftwood Sevens quarter-finals after making strong starts to the third leg of the National Sevens Circuit at Mombasa Sports Club on Saturday.
The four sides finished the opening two rounds with results good enough to secure their places in the last eight, while Kenya Harlequin and Strathmore Leos were left fighting to salvage pride after failing to win either of their matches.
KCB continued their push for the circuit title with two important wins. The bankers opened their campaign with a 22-5 victory over Kisumu RFC before edging Uganda 7s 12-7 in their second match. The two wins underline KCB’s consistency after they had also been among the leading teams in the opening legs. With points at stake in Mombasa, the bankers know that a strong run at Driftwood could move them closer to the top of the standings and strengthen their bid for the overall title.

Kabras, who are also chasing the circuit crown, were equally impressive. They started with a 43-0 demolition of MSC Rugby before beating Nondescripts RFC 12-0.
Matthias Osimbo scored both tries against Nondies to settle the match in the first half. Kabras controlled the game after the break, keeping their opponents from finding a way back.
The Western Kenya side will now look to go all the way in Mombasa as they seek maximum points in their battle with KCB for the National Sevens Circuit title.
Menengai Oilers also made a strong statement, beating Nakuru RFC 14-7 before recording a convincing 34-5 victory over Kilifi RFC. Their second-round win was the biggest of the two matches and puts them in a strong position heading into the knock-out stage.
Daystar Falcons were another team to impress. They beat Kilifi 19-10 in their opening match before shutting out Nakuru 15-0. Their perfect start has put them among the teams to watch as the competition enters the decisive stage. The results have also exposed the struggles of some of the established sides.
Kenya Harlequin, who were expected to challenge for a place in the latter stages, have failed to win either of their opening matches.
