No surprises as top guns exert dominance in KVF league

Reigning Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s National League champions Kenya Pipeline and former holders KCB Bank yesterday extended their good run as the play-offs lineup began to take shape.

Pipeline, who are gradually moving up the ladder, whitewashed hapless Kenyatta University (KU) in a lopsided match played yesterday at Nyayo Gymnasium.

For KU students who made their league debut this season, the 25-1, 25-2, and 25-9 defeat was a lesson they wished they had never turned up for as they suffered their ninth defeat to remain at the bottom of the table.

The victory saw the Oilers maintain their flawless run and narrow the point gap between them and the leading sides. The oil merchants, who never featured in the second leg, have played fewer matches than their opponents and are likely to end the regular season in the top two despite their current position.

It was a tough day in the office for the rookies as A-Plus fell in straight sets to former champions KCB, risking their chances of sealing a play-offs slot.

The bankers had it easy, dismissing vehicle sellers 25-13, 25-16, and 25-11 to chalk their sixth win and cement their place in the top five. Today, A-Plus face an uphill task against Pipeline, who will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run.

KCB will clash with the Kenya Army, while Postbank, who were not in action yesterday, will take on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Former League winners Kenya Prisons will tackle Young Spikers.

Simlaw Seeds enhanced their chances of securing a promotion to the Men’s National League following their 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) victory against the Kenya Navy in the lower tier played at the same venue. Bunge Volleyball Club also extended their good run with a straight-sets (25-22, 25-20, and 25-15) win against Deaf Volleyball.

ASOB and The Beast also carried the day in their respective matches. ASOB laboured to a 3-2 (21-25, 25-12, 30-28, 22-25, 15-8) win against the University of Nairobi, while The Beast saw off Kenya Air Force 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19).
