The Anti-Counterfeit Agency has put contraband electrical cable importers on a notice warning of stringent penalties. ACA said far from undoing efforts to create a favourable business environment for legitimate businesses to thrive, illegal electrical cables are classified as high-risk goods and importation of sub-standard cables posed great harm to Kenyans. The Agency said its attention had been drawn by containers impounded in a Mombasa Freight station last month containing over 2,000 electrical cables purportedly destined for the South Sudan market. Speaking after visiting listed-manufacturer East African Cables' Industrial Area plant in Nairobi, ACA's CEO Dr John Akoten said inter-agency efforts have continually reinforced arrangements for pre-shipment inspection of products coming into the country.
