Returnees Kisumu RFC got off the mark with shock win over Nondies as Quins dropped to bottom spot after second successive loss.

Impala Saracens displaced defending champions KCB to move second in the Kenya Cup standings after match day two action at the weekend.

Impala, 2016 losing finalists, thrashed Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 57-9 to register their second bonus-point win in succession with the result propelling them above KCB courtesy of their superior point difference (60).

While Impala are flying high, their Ngong Road neighbours Kenya Harlequin are experiencing a difficult start to the 2019-20 season as they find themselves at the bottom of the 12-team table. 

Quins’ 32-20 loss to KCB at home over the weekend means the Dominique Habimana-coached side is the only team yet to pick a point in the league having started the campaign with a 26-13 defeat away at Homeboyz.

In their loss to KCB, Habimana’s charges will rue their poor showing in the first half, a period which they conceded 29 points.

“We believed in ourselves too late in the game and that proved costly. It was a game of two halves; we didn’t  play in the first half but it was too late for us to change the result in the second half,” Habimana said in his post-match remarks.

The former Kenya 15s assistant coach noted improvement in their decision making as he expressed optimism ahead of their next match against Western Bulls.

Kisumu RFC’s shock 19-17 win over Nondescripts catapulted the lake side outfit to seventh position with four points.

It was a perfect response from the Kenya Cup returnees who were handed a rude welcome by Kabras Sugar in their first match.
