Three men were yesterday caught red-handed with donkey meat in Naivasha town.
Police say the three suspects, nabbed near Mithuri estate along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, will give useful leads to unravel the cartel behind the sale of donkey meat in the area and beyond.
During the Friday morning incident, Administration Police officers recovered three slaughtered cattle and a carcass of a donkey.
The police also mounted a manhunt for a popular Naivasha trader who is the mastermind of the illegal trade.

The officers confiscated a taxi used to ferry the meat, which was packaged in plastic bags as a second vehicle got away from the scene.
The suspects who include a taxi driver were beaten and left for dead by irate members of the public before police came to their rescue.
The suspects openly admitted to the trade adding that there was a ready market in Nairobi’s Burma market, which is a popular nyama choma joint.
“We are contracted to do this business by some traders in Naivasha and Nairobi and this is not the first time,” confessed one of the suspects.
The owner of the livestock which had been slaughtered, Mary Nyambura, said the suspects broke into her home at around 4am and drove away with the animals.
A neighbour heard commotion and informed the granny and with the help of motorcycle operators they managed to track the suspects.
“We informed police who arrived very fast and caught the three loading the meat into the waiting vehicle,” she said.
Viwandani MCA Eunice Mureithi who visited the scene called for the arrest of the Naivasha businessman who is brains behind the trade.
