Grief has engulfed Manera village in Homa Bay after a farmhand murdered his employer's daughter before committing suicide.
Brian Manase, 25, reportedly killed a 16-year-old girl, Ida Odhiambo, in her parents’ home.
According to a police report, Ida’s mother, Pamela Audi, left her daughter at home with the farmhand when she was going to Kisumu last week.
However, when she returned home on Sunday at about 9 pm, she did not find anybody in the compound.
She went to the house where her daughter used to sleep, since she expected them to be awake, but did not find her.

Audi stooped under the bed and saw the body of her daughter on the floor.
According to Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander John Losia, Audi reported that the injuries on Ida’s body indicated that her neck had been hacked with a machete.
“The mother was shocked to find the body of her daughter under the bed. The body had a serious injury on the neck,” Losia said.
The police boss said a clear examination of Ida’s body indicated that she was defiled before being killed.
“Our officers found that the girl might have been defiled before she was murdered,” Losia said.
Audi raised an alarm which attracted residents to her home.
When the residents arrived, they decided to look for Manase who was also nowhere to be seen.
Some residents went to the servant’s house where Manase used to sleep. They broke the door and found his body dangling on a rope tied to the roof of the house, indicating he had committed suicide.
The two bodies were moved to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue for postmortem.
