A Saturday inferno at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital has been contained.
The fire broke out within the Mother and Child Hospital compound, a few meters from the male and orthopaedic wards.
Staff, however, responded quickly and managed to put it out.
The inferno razed makeshift structures that were put up by a contractor who has been building the Mother and Child Hospital unit.
The hospital's management through the facility's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Oimeke Marita, assured all patients of their safety.

"The fire has been contained and all patients within the facility are safe," said Dr Marita.
A message affirmed by County Executive for Health, Leah Ogega.
"We have accounted for every patient. We leave everything to the line officers to investigate the matter and give us a conclusive report," said Ogega.
