Machete-wilding robbers stormed a church in Migori on Thursday and killed two people before stealing equipment.
Suna West sub-county police commander Elizabeth Wakuloba said the two attackers raided Maranatha Faith Assemblies Church in Migori town in the early hours of Thursday morning when they hacked their victims to death.
"The three raiders, all men, were armed with pangas. They attacked a security guard and a member of the church during the 1 am incident.
The security guard died instantly while the other victim, said to be a student, died while receiving treatment at Migori County Referral hospital.
"The student sustained deep cuts and died in hospital," Ms Wakuloba said, adding they are already investigating the attack.

The police boss said the gang stole six microphones and an amplifier from the church. The police later recovered the amplifier, Wakuloba said.
This was the third security guard to be killed around Migori town within the last month. The attacks have been attributed to a gang said to be terrorising residents.
