Bondo Deputy County Commissioner, Richard Karani has confirmed that Maranda High School, Siaya County is on fire again.

Speaking to The Standard on Sunday, December 5 morning, Karani said that the fire began at the Boaz Owino a few minutes ago adding that the police have just arrived at the school to establish more details.

"We have just been informed that the fire began this morning. We are on our way to look into it," Karan told The Standard.

On Thursday, all Form Four students were sent home indefinitely for allegedly refusing to write mock exams and threatening to burn the school.

Siaya County Director of Education Nelson Sifuna confirmed to The Standard that over 400 students were sent home on Thursday morning.

“The internal mock exams, which were scheduled for Monday, December 6, have since been postponed to a later date, which will be communicated,” he said.

Sifuna said the students had, on Tuesday night, threatened to torch learning or accommodation facilities within the school.

One of the teachers of Maranda High School, who spoke to The Standard on condition of anonymity, said the decision to send the learners home was arrived at on Thursday morning.
