MCAs sign motion to impeach Governor Guyo

Isiolo MCAs have signed a motion to impeach their embattled Governor Abdi Guyo.

The 18 members of the County assembly (10 elected) on Tuesday evening signed the application of motion to impeach Guyo.

The Motion is being moved by Sericho ward MCA Abubakar Godana of United Democratic Movement (UDA) and seconded by Golicha Abduba.

The majority party, United Democratic Movement, has six of the 10 elected members of the House, while KANU has two seats, while UDA and The Service Party (TSP) have one slot each. The Assembly has seven nominated members.

The MCAs, through their majority leader, forwarded the formal intent to move the Motion to impeach the Governor to Clerk Salad Boru.

A source at the Assembly revealed that Boru had written to Assembly Speaker Mohammed Koto and Governor Guyo about the MCAs' intention.

The Motion of impeachment had been set for introduction on the floor of the Assembly next Tuesday.

Guyo, who rose to fame by becoming the first MCA to be elected as Governor in the 2022 General Election, had been dogged by controversy from the word go as he became a frequent visitor to the Senate following summons from various House committees.

The Senate committees have summoned Guyo on issues ranging from queries on procurement, employment, and usage of funds.

He has also been put on notice for stalled key projects like the county headquarters, markets, and Isiolo stadium.

Guyo attended some of the summons, but in most cases, he ended up not satisfying the Senate in his responses.

Last month, the Senate was shocked that the Governor had 36 advisers, the highest in the country. He defended himself, saying four were employed directly under his office on a contract basis, while 32 were recruited through the County Public Service Board.

He could not name the four under his office when asked by the Senate.
