The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has named Senior Principal Kadhi Sukyan Omar Hassan as the Acting Chief Kadhi, effective August 8, 2025.
His appointment follows the death of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Athman Abdul-Halim on July 10, 2025, which left the position vacant.
In a statement issued by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfridah Mokaya, the JSC said the decision was reached during a meeting on July 14, according to Article 170 of the Constitution and Section 2 of the Kadhis’ Court Act.
“Omar will discharge all the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Kadhi during the acting period; he will serve for three months or until a substantive appointment is made," the statement read.
Prior to his appointment, Omar served as Deputy Chief Kadhi under Sheikh Abdul-Halim.
