As the country marks one year since the June 25 protests, young people have vowed to return to the streets.
A heavy police presence has been reported across Nairobi and other major towns.
By 6 am, Parliament Road was closed, with heightened security surrounding the parliamentary precincts.
The building was cordoned off with razor wire to prevent access by protesters.

By 9am, protesters had begun gathering in Nairobi's CBD, chanting the names of those killed during last year's demonstrations.

In Migori, it was business as usual after police restored calm after some youth attempted to demonstrate as early as 2 am.
Meanwhile, Kisumu, and Kitale are relatively calm, with few activities reported and police patrolling the streets.

So far, at least five protesters have sustained injuries during the ongoing demos in Nairobi while two rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
