Judiciary gets Sh3.1 B boost in Mbadi's budget proposals

The Judiciary has received a notable funding increase in the 2025–26 national budget, with its allocation rising to Sh27.8 billion from Sh24.7 billion in the previous financial year - an increment of Sh3.1 billion.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi revealed the figures on Thursday while presenting the Sh4.2 trillion national budget in Parliament. 

He said the additional funds would help improve access to justice and enhance efficiency within the judicial system.

“This will enable the administration of justice,” Mbadi stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening legal institutions.

Beyond the Judiciary, Mbadi also announced a joint allocation of Sh4.5 billion for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, up slightly from the previous year’s Sh4 billion and Sh4.2 billion respectively.

The State Law Office was allocated Sh5.3 billion, down from Sh6.9 billion last year, while the Office of the Auditor General retained its funding at Sh8.7 billion.
