DIG Lagat warns officers to desist from corruption

Days after prisoners escaped from lawful custody at a court in Siaya,  Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat toured the county and urged officers to maintain professionalism and teamwork.

Lagat cautioned officers against corrupt practices and reminded them to take decisive action against crimes, including human trafficking, illicit brews, and drugs.

On May 5, six robberies with violence suspects escaped while in cells at the Siaya Law Courts, leading to the arrest of 13 officers who were arrested and charged.

The officers were identified as Joan Komen, Philip Soita, Hannington Kidadi, Cyril Murombo, Michael Kipkemei, Collins Kibet, Erastus Makenzi, Samwel Ombesa, John Mulwa, Fanuel Chacha, Wallecks Asugo, Evans Toel, and David Matheka.

While in the company of Siaya County Police Commander Serah Koki, the DIG reminded the officers of the need to uphold ethical principles while dispensing their duties and never to be tempted wayward behaviour tainting the image of the National Police Service.

“I urged you to always execute your mandate within the confines of the law and police regulations,” said Lagat at Ugunja Police Station where he had made an impromptu visit in his bid to make the facilities centres of excellence before heading to neighbouring Busia County where a naked body of unknown female was found in a dam.

According to officers from Ganga Police Station, Samia Sub County, the body of an adult believed to be 40 years, had physical injuries around the mouth extending to the left cheek.

It is suspected the victim was killed elsewhere, and the body, which was spotted floating, dumped in the dam.
