Kenya issues advisory alert on Myanmar earthquake

Kenya has issued an advisory alert to its citizens in Myanmar and Thailand following the recent devastating earthquakes in both countries.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu advised individuals residing in the two countries to prioritize their safety and remain vigilant.

"We stand in solidarity with all those affected by this disaster. To ensure safety, all Kenyans in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and monitor updates," stated PS Njogu.

Citizens are encouraged to stay informed by following local news and official alerts for real-time updates on aftershocks and emergency measures related to the earthquakes.

They should prioritize personal safety by avoiding unnecessary travel to heavily impacted areas. As they remain vigilant, it is also advisable for them to register with their embassy.

Additionally, Njogu urged citizens to comply with evacuation orders, shelter advisories, and safety guidelines issued by local disaster management agencies.

They are also supposed to check on each other and provide details for those who have not registered to the Kenya Embassy in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, or the nearest East African Community diplomatic mission for assistance and updates.

This is after the earthquake caused more than 2,000 deaths and led to the collapse of numerous structures.

Even though the south-east Asian nation is a high risk region for earthquakes, neighbouring Thailand and China - which were also affected by the quake.
