Government keen on resolving double taxation for Kenyans in diaspora

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured Kenyans in the diaspora that the government is working towards resolving double taxation between Kenya and other states.

Speaking when he met Kenyans in Germany, Gachagua said it is unfair to tax Kenyans twice especially those investing and sending money back home.

"The issue of double taxation is a thorn in the flesh for all Kenyans in the diaspora. What we have done is that we are now addressing the matter because for us to get support from the diaspora in terms of remittances, we have to address this issue," said the DP.

The government is working with the National Treasury and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to find a common ground, one that is fair to everyone.

"I want to assure you that various laws are being looked into with a view of getting a win-win situation where you don't suffer double jeopardy where you are taxed here in Germany as you send money in Kenya," he said.

Gachagua is in Germany for a three-day visit where he joined other leaders at the Global Gateway Forum, hosted by the European Commission.

He was accompanied by the Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi.
