14 juveniles arrested during a crackdown on gangs in Eastlands, Nairobi

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the public, promising an intensified crackdown on juvenile gangs.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has opened investigations into the growing menace of juvenile gangs in Umoja and neighbouring estates.

The move comes after a viral video circulated online showing teenage boys engaged in violent clashes that left 15-year-old Joshua Kubiti dead.

The teenager succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at Radiant Hospital in Umoja.

According to preliminary findings, the gangs comprise boys aged between 12 and 19 who operate under names such as Chinje, Mbogi, Bad Bunny, and Silent.

They have been linked to violent confrontations, phone snatching, and theft in Tena, Innercore, Umoja I, II & III, Kayole, Kariobangi, and surrounding areas.

Detectives noted that recruitment spikes during school holidays, luring more youths into crime.

In a recent crackdown led by Buruburu-based officers, 14 juveniles, 10 boys and four girls were arrested.

They were arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts, where police secured custodial orders to aid investigations into Kubiti's death.
