Two prison warders from Naivasha GK Prison were yesterday charged with the murder of an inmate.
Sergeant Dennis Wandati and Constable Obadiah Meriti appeared before High Court judge Richard Mwongo in Naivasha and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The charge sheet read that on June 15, 2019, they jointly murdered Simon Nduru Gitahi at the Naivasha Maximum Security Prison.
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru pleaded with the court to grant the two favourable bail or bond, saying that they had cooperated with investigators since the incident happened.
The prosecution, however, urged the court to grant the accused strict bond terms.

Justice Mwongo released the two on cash bail of Sh200,000 or a surety of Sh1.8 million each.
“The accused should reside at the prison quarters and report to the officer in charge of the Naivasha Maximum Security Prison every Friday,” he said.
The case will be heard on March 17.
