Why 2022 Safari Rally will attract many foreign drivers

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has said WRC Safari Rally is expecting more international entries next season following amazing feedback that Kenya has received after this year's event that was held in Naivasha in June.

She said the positive response has now prompted the local organisers to start planning for a bigger and better event in next year.

"We have had great responses from Kenyans and the international community at large from the Safari Rally we held in June," said Amina.

"These are clear indicators that we should should expect a swell in entries and crowd in the next edition.

"Everybody was waiting for the rally to get back to Kenya, since it's part of our heritage."

Amina was speaking to wrc.com in Finland at the weekend where she graced the Rally of Finland together with Safari Rally CEO Phineas Kimathi.

Amina said Kenya worked really hard, through Kimathi, to bring back the Safari Rally after a 19-year hiatus.

"We are excited and delighted that the series is back in Kenya for the next five years," she said.

Amina hinted that next year's competition in Kenya will be held at same time as this years' event, meaning international drivers should expect favourable weather conditions associated with the month of June.

She said the championships will have better coordination and management as the organisers have gone through the rigorous drill and are now perfect with their logistics.
