Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Secretary General Hussein Swaleh is back in football administration after he was elected chairman of Lower Eastern during branch elections held on Tuesday.

Swaleh garnered 47 votes against the former chairman Samuel Njeru’ five. Njue Nyagah (36) is the secretary after he beat Ibrahim Njuki (15).

Njuki is the outgoing Secretary General and joins a long list of the old guard who were shown the door.
After the elections, Swaleh could not hide his joy of returning to football administration and said he still has a lot to offer.

“We are glad that delegates and clubs accepted our message and gave us this opportunity to serve them. I am delighted to be back in football and promise to do more for football lovers in lower Eastern,” he said.

In South Coast, another long-serving football administrator Hamisi Mwayoyo (22) lost to Gabriel Mgendi (27) in the chairman’s post contest.

In Mt Kenya, there was no clear winner after incumbent chairman Martin Kiarie and James Ndegwa tied 11-11. Ali Yusuf Ngotho (11), was elected secretary after defeating Jackson Odawa (9).

In North Rift, Bernard Langat (23) was elected chairman after beating Kennedy Kalia (20). In Nyanza South, Yobes Ondieki (23) became the new chairman after incumbent Peter Omwando (2) was sent packing. Elkanah Agai Muok won the secretary’s seat after polling 23-3 against Evans Ondego.

The elected officials will vote during the national elections on February 10.

Meanwhile, there may be no repeat voting in areas where candidates tied during the just-concluded branch elections.

According to the FKF electoral board, two proposals were fronted in case of a tie during the elections.
One of the proposals was for the two candidates to agree on who would take over, while the other was to toss a coin. “We had two proposals, but we are considering to see what would be the best. We have to take into consideration which of the two proposals is popular with officials,” said a member of the electoral board.
There were two ties in South Rift and Mt.Kenya branches.
