Simi under investigation as old tweets spark child abuse allegations

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, is under scrutiny after the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) launched an investigation into claims of child sexual abuse linked to a daycare owned by her mother.

NAPTIP issued a public notice on its Instagram and other platforms, committing to probe “credible reports” of child sexual abuse in daycare settings.

"We take all reports of child sexual abuse/misconduct seriously and are committed to investigating every credible claim. If you have factual information, evidence, or were directly affected, please reach out confidentially," NAPTIP said.

The agency urged anyone with “factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected” to come forward confidentially, stressing that only well-documented claims would trigger formal investigations.

The development follows the resurfacing of controversial social media posts from 2012, which have sparked widespread public outrage.

The posts, allegedly made when Simi was 23 and assisting at her mother’s daycare, described disturbing interactions with toddlers.

The tweets resurfaced as Simi spoke out against rape culture, particularly following TikToker Mirabel’s retracted false rape allegation.

The agency’s move comes amid intense backlash online, where some users have accused the singer of alleged inappropriate conduct based on the old posts on X.

According to Premium Times, the singer denied any wrongdoing, saying the tweets reflected innocent, everyday moments from her time helping at the daycare while pursuing her music career.

“In 2012, I lived and helped out at my mom's daycare while I was hustling my music. I tweeted everything that happened in my life. Nothing I tweeted was from perversion,” she stated, emphasising that her words were manipulated and taken out of context.

Child protection advocates have since praised the latest response as proactive, citing social media’s role in prompting action.

However, Simi’s reputation remains under pressure, with her mother’s daycare facing potential scrutiny.
