Teachers equipped with AI skills ahead of national STEM exhibition

Over 170 secondary school teachers in the country have been trained in Artificial Intelligence (AI) under a national programme aimed at boosting AI literacy in classrooms.

The AI training focuses on helping teachers integrate AI concepts into everyday lesson plans, making science and technology more engaging and applicable to real-world challenges.

The initiative, led by Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Embassy of Ireland in Kenya, and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, has reached teachers from counties including Nakuru, Mandera, Tana River, and Wajir.

The curriculum includes freely accessible materials developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in partnership with Google DeepMind, as well as structured teacher development modules.

Launched six months ago, the Experience AI programme seeks to  build the capacity of teachers to demystify AI concepts and introduce emerging technologies in the classroom.

So far, the initiative has impacted over 3,400 students, equipping them with foundational digital and computational thinking skills.
