Tension is rising at Bureti National Polytechnic as students have issued a notice threatening to stage a demonstration over several grievances.
Their grievances include poor road infrastructure, unreliable electricity supply, and unaddressed academic and extracurricular concerns.
In a letter dated July 7, 2025, addressed to the Officer Commanding Litein Police Station, the students outlined longstanding challenges that they believe have negatively impacted their welfare and learning environment.
Among the key issues raised are the deteriorating roads leading to the institution, which they describe as hazardous and a barrier to accessibility.
In response to the notice, Litein Sub County police boss Benedict Chirchir led a team of police officers to the school to assess the situation and ensure safety.

“We acknowledge that the police were notified by the students of their intention to protest peacefully if no immediate action is taken,” he stated.
The students also cited a lack of power supply due to a faulty transformer near Mitinangi, which they say has been affecting operations at the institution.
They have urged the relevant government departments to intervene urgently.
In addition to infrastructure concerns, the students demanded an explanation from the administration regarding their exclusion from recent sports events and the lack of academic trips, despite these being part of the academic calendar.
“The administration has been silent on these matters for far too long. We want answers and action, not promises,” the student letter stated.
OCPD Chirchir confirmed that the institution’s management is holding an urgent meeting with student leaders, assuring that, “The situation is being closely monitored to avoid any escalation.”
