Foreigner suspected of killing lawyer Koki detained for two weeks

The main suspect in the killing of advocate Elizabeth Koki Musyoki was yesterday arraigned at the Mavoko law court in Machakos County. 

Christian Mwambay Kadima appeared before Principal Magistrate Bernard Kasavuli, where the prosecution sought 14 days to complete investigations into the killing. Mr Kasavuli granted the request by the prosecution and ordered that the suspect be remanded at Mlolongo police station.

The matter will be mentioned on January 25, where the suspect will take a plea awaiting further orders.

Koki, who is said to have been living with Kadima for two years, was found dead inside her house at Syokimau area in Machakos County.

She was the founder of Koki & Associates, a human resource law consultancy firm in Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested Kadima on Saturday. Police reports show that he is also wanted in South Africa over other criminal accusations.

Detectives believe Kadima fled the house after committing the crime on Friday. The victim’s body was later found by her domestic worker.

Bears many names

Law Society of Kenya Vice President Carol Kamende Daudi, representing the organisation in the case, said the 14 days given by the court would allow the prosecution to reveal the suspect’s identification since he bears many names.

“The suspect has many names, and therefore we need to get his real identity. In the South Africa case, where he was allegedly accused of assault, he was charged under the name Eric Kambaye Katalawi. We continue to condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms possible. There are many ways to solve issues. Killing someone solves nothing,” said Kamende while addressing journalists outside the court. [Peterson Githaiga]
