Machakos County government has dispatched 40 tractors to till residents' farms ahead of the planting season.
Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Executive Nimrod Mbai said hybrid seeds, fertiliser and other assorted farm input have also been procured and are ready for disbursement to residents.
Addressing the media in Machakos town after flagging off the tractors yesterday, Mr Mbai said the move is expected to boost farmers' efforts in increasing the county's food production for the forthcoming season.
He said the county agricultural mechanisation programme launched last year by Governor Alfred Mutua had effectively seen an increase of land under cultivation from the initial 20 per cent to the current 60 per cent.
