Isiolo High Court blocks impeachment motion against Governor Guyo

The Isiolo High Court has today issued conservatory orders restraining the County Assembly of Isiolo from debating the notice of motion dated June 10, 2025, for the removal from office by impeachment of Governor Abdi Guyo, following an application filed at the Court on June 13, 2025.

The court's order signed by Justice Nyaga Mbogo restrains, bars, and prohibits the respondents—either directly or through their agents—from admitting, processing, debating, or considering in any manner the notice of motion scheduled for debate on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, or on any future date set by the respondents.

Additionally, the court has directed the third respondent to provide the petitioner/applicant with a copy of the impeachment notice of motion, along with all supporting documents, within 48 hours of being served with the order.

The court further ordered that the application be served to all respondents by close of business on June 17, 2025.

This development could temporarily ease the political tension that has been escalating across the county since the notice of motion was tabled.

Earlier today, a section of residents identifying themselves as representatives of the various ethnic communities living in Isiolo held a joint press briefing in support of the County Assembly Members’ (MCAs) move to impeach the governor.

They called on residents to turn out in large numbers for the public participation session scheduled for Wednesday this week, ahead of the motion’s tabling in the Assembly on Friday.

Reading a statement on behalf of the group, Ali Dima stated that many Isiolo residents viewed the impeachment process as a legitimate exercise of the County Assembly's constitutional mandate. He urged citizens to attend Wednesday’s session and share their feedback.

The group claimed that the accusations against the governor are already known to the public. They asserted that Governor Guyo has violated the law in multiple ways and must appear before both the Assembly and the Senate to defend himself.

Ali Dima mentioned that some of the allegations—particularly those involving verbal insults directed at the senator—were recorded on camera and occurred in public settings.

He added that public support for the MCAs remains strong, dismissing opponents of the impeachment as individuals working for the governor who do not reflect the community’s views.

Luke Mithika also backed the impeachment, citing gross misuse of development resources in Isiolo and called for a thorough audit after the impeachment process becomes successful.

Lokole Esokon raised concerns about alleged intimidation of residents and urged the government to ensure the safety of MCAs.

Representing the youth, Nadia Ibrahim supported the MCAs' action, arguing that Isiolo residents have been deprived of the ability to manage their own resources.
