Githunguri family looking for man who went missing on June 25

A family in Githunguri is looking for their loved one who went missing on June 25 during the commemoration of the 2024 Gen Z demonstrations.

Peter Mani, 37, went missing from the Kwa Maiko town in Githunguri, Kiambu County shortly after completing some menial jobs he was doing for traders in the market.

His sister, Beatrice Ng’ang’a says that Mani is mentally disturbed, a condition that he has battled for over 10 years.

She told The Standard that he used to work for the Fresha Milk Company but was forced to stop working due to the condition.

“He did not join the protests,” she said.

According to her, there were no demonstrations in Githunguri despite protests being witnessed countrywide against the administration of President William Ruto.

Mani, a Kiambu National Polytechnic (formerly Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology) graduate, has been helping his mother with farm work since he stopped working at the milk company.

His sister says he earns only enough for his consumption and on the material day, was headed for Kwa Maiko after receiving some money from their mother.

“He left home at around 2pm and went to Kwa Maiko for his usual jobs, which he did and the traders say that they have never seen him since then.”

Ng’ang’a says that although Mani does not have a phone, he has memorized both her number and their mothers number and is yet to contact them after more than a week.

The family reported the matter at the Marige Police Post under OB number 02/28/06/2026 but are yet to hear from the police or members of the public about the whereabouts of their kin.
