Police have arrested a matatu driver following the death of two children in a grisly road accident along the Tetu-Kamakwa Road in Nyeri town.
Another child was also injured when a public service vehicle hit them on their way to school on Monday morning.
Confirming the November 21 incident, Nyeri Deputy Sub County Commanders Antony Okout said the two children, pupils at Tetu Boys Primary school, were walking to the institution.
"The two boys, Lucas Weru - 14 and Jacob Wambugu - 15 were Class 8 candidates. The third victim was a class seven pupil who is currently admitted at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital," he said.
Okout said the driver was allegedly overspeeding when the vehicle veered off the road and hit the students; the two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested the driver who will remain in police custody until the post-mortems are completed and he is charged in court.
The vehicle has been impounded at the Nyeri Sub County police station.
"We would like to caution drivers to be careful during the rainy season to avoid such accidents. Be keen when driving on slippery roads and alert because the mist reduces visibility, " he warned.
The bodies were transferred to the county referral hospital mortuary.
