Student intends to take telescope to Mt Kenya for astronomical observation

NYERI, KENYA: A fifth year civil engineering students at Dedan Kimathi university in Nyeri county is set to take a telescope on top of Mt Kenya later this month for the purpose of studying the universe.
Jackson Karanjau told The Standard in Kiambu town on Monday that it will be for the first time the gadget will go up the mountain for astronomical observation, which is set to be historic.
“There is no light pollution and the atmospheric pressure in the mountain is very friendly, which will be ideal for the astronomical observation, and learning purposes,” said Karanjau.
The students noted that space industry is very young in the country unlike in other countries like South Africa and it rarely happens that is why he came up with the idea to take the telescope in the mountain for the observation.

“It’s very important to study the universe as everything started from somewhere, out of observation we learn alot and once we do it from September 20 to 24 very many students will be inspired in their lives to even study more what the universe is all about,” added the students.
Karanjau is set to take the telescope as other students from his school will be climbing the mountain in a drive to raise funds to educate the less fortunate in the school.It takes place on the month of September every year.
