Kenya's success in automating its public finance management systems has strengthened the country's profile in the region and it is now becoming a reference point for other countries keen on implementing electronic systems in the management of their financial systems.
Among these is Uganda, whose Ministry of Finance and economic development is looking to pick lessons from Kenya's success in the implementation of the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMIS).
In particular, the Ugandan government is keen on taking up lessons from Kenya on implementation of the e-procurement component of IFMIS. E-procurement has automated all procurement and payment processes across all State offices and in turn increasing transparency and accountability in the procurement processes.
National Treasury this week hosted a Ugandan delegation on a two-day benchmarking exercise to study implementation of online procurement in Kenya.
