Rural Electrification Authority to set up solar power plant in Wajir

The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) is planning to establish a 60KW (KiloWatt) solar power plant in Wajir.

In a public notice published in the dailies Wednesday, the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) said it will on July 5 send an application to the Energy Regulatory Commission for a permit to that would see it set up a solar hybrid power plant in the north-eastern county.

REA was quick to assure locals that the project would not have adverse effects on them.

“The grant of the permit will not have any adverse effect on any public or local authorities, companies, persons or bodies of persons within the area of the undertaking,” read the notice which was signed by REA CEO  Ng’ang’a Munyu.

A gridlock over compensation for land has seen a number of projects stall. Recently, contractors of the Kinangop Wind Project in Kinangop, Nyandarua, were forced to pull the plug on the project after a stalemate on how the locals would be compensated for their land.

Anyone who may be disgruntled over the project have 30 days to lodge a complaint to the energy regulator.
