Ole Sapit condemns political intolerance, hooliganism

Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has condemned political intolerance and use of goons to settle political scores.

Ole Sapit warned against attempst to curtail freedom of speech which is enshrined in the Kenya Constitution.

"It is wrong to use goons to persecute people holding contrary opinions or views. It is sinful, the young men being used have a mouth and intellect to refuse to be used and make money in other legal and accepted and decent ways, these are actions that could lead one to a jail or get harmed in the course of the illegal duty," he said.

The archbishop said that the future if Kenya cannot be pegged on hooliganism in the name of intimidating political opponents.

The bishop was referring to incidents where the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's events have on several occasions been disrupted by goons allegedly hired by state machineries and leaders.

Goons disrupted a funeral attended by Gachagua in Limuru where they broke chairs and uprooted tents. The DP's events in Nyandarua, Kasarani and Naivasha were also disrupted by goons.

On Monday, Gachagia has alleged that he had received intelligence that goons had been hired to deal with him once and for all.

"It is sad that as a country we have never known how to end elections period, even after campaigns we are constantly in an elections mode or semi campaigns mode with every meeting being a turned into a political meeting, we appeal that these leaders should let their actions speak and be more evident than their favorite talking," Sapit Said.

Ole Sapit urged leaders to first deliver on their promises on education, health and food security.

The Archbishop condemned the senseless killings and abductions across the country.
