NOC-K tells federations to embrace leadership ratio

National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) will only support federations that have met the 60-40 percent ratio on leadership.

“Nock has written to all federations directing them to comply with the 60-40 ratio of leadership or risk missing getting the committee’s grants in preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France,” warned NOC-k’s Secretary General Francis Mutuku.

Speaking at the Agnes Tirop Conference on levelling the playing field, gender inclusivity in sports in Diani, Kwale County, Mutuku said the 60-40 ratio in management is in both genders.

“We must level the ground for both genders in sports leadership. Women’s participation in leadership increased from 18 in Beijing Olympic Game to 48 in last year’s Tokyo Olympic Games,” said Mutuku.

The official said the radical changes in federations are meant to bring more women in leadership. On grants to teams to prepare for the Paris Summer Games, Mutuku said more focus will be put on both national Malkia Strikers (volleyball team) and Kenya Lioness (rugby team) to prepare for the Olympics.

These two teams have not disappointed and we believe we can do better if we bring on board more women teams,” said Mutuku.

Kenya National Paralympic Committee Chairperson Agnes Oluoch challenged NOC-K to support her committee financially.
