Heptathlone national record holder Caroline Kola clocked 87.72 to win women's 60-year-old 400m category at the ongoing 13th edition of Africa Masters Athletics Championships at Nyayo Stadium, yesterday.

Elizabeth Muthoka, a former national record holder in the discipline, timed 64.37 to win the women's 45 year-old contest.

Sabina Mukoswa (62.85) won the women's 35-year-olds category, Charity Wanda (73.19) in the 40 years, while Irene Wamuyu (82.92) was triumphant in the 55-year-olds segment.

"Even though I won, I was not in my best element today. My time was slow. I think I did better in the trials than today," Kola told Standard Sports.

Kola's national heptathlone record has stood the test of time since she set it in 1994.

Her triple jump national record, set in 2001, was broken by her student Gloria Mulei two years ago.

Kisii County Police Commander Francis Kooli clocked 8:12 to win men's 50-year-olds 60m dash as Cassie Ntahipmera of Burundi came second in 9.76.

"I'm happy with my performance. Apart from the race, I donated two wheelchairs in support of children with disability," Kooli said.
