Vihiga Queens revived their chances of booking a semifinal berth in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt following a 2-0 victory over Moroccan side AS-FAR on Tuesday.

A win against Nigerian side Rivers Angels on Friday, will guarantee Vihiga Queens a smooth passage into the next round, should South African side Mamelodi Sundown contain AS-FAR in the last group B match.

A goal in either half saw the reigning CECAFA Regional Qualifiers winners temporarily climb to second on the table thanks to the historic win.

Violet Wanyonyi gave the reigning Kenya Women’s Premier League champions the lead in the eighth minute before a Jentrix Shikangwa, who provided an assist in the opening goal, doubled the lead with a 47th minute deflection.

Shikangwa benefited from defensive lapse to put the game beyond reach for the Moroccan Army side.

The win temporarily pushed the Kenyan Queens joint top, on points with AS-FAR.

AS-FAR had a positive start following a 3-0 victory in the opening leg against Nigerians Rivers Angels.

Queens had lost their opening game by a solitary goal to Sundowns last Saturday.

Sundowns, which is owned by CAF president Patrice Mutsepe, are top of the group.

Coach Charles Okere worked on his defence and they managed to contain Sanaa Mssoudy who scored a hat trick against Rivers Angels, now bottom of the group.

Tereza Engesha was voted the woman of the match. Queens and Harambee Starlets goalkeeper Lilian Onyango had another good run of the game after keeping their opponents at bay.
