CS Matiang'i promises new dawn for Kenya Prisons

Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang'i has promised to spearhead the construction of a sporting complex in Ruiru to boost sports infrastructure for the Kenya Prisons team.
The CS announced the plans at Magereza House after receiving the Kenya Prisons volleyball and athletics teams which represented the country in the just concluded women’s African Club and World Relay championships in Tunisia and Poland respectively.
Prisons finished third behind Sfaxien and eventual winners Carthage during the African Clubs Championship in Kelibia.
Speaking during the ceremony, Matiang'i congratulated the volleyball team and promised a bright future for the team going forward.
“I am going to spearhead a campaign to create partnership to facilitate the groundbreaking and for the construction of indoor sports Complex in Ruiru.”
“Potential resource is huge, when committed, focused and disciplined we can achieve much. We will be able to pay 75% of our pending bills by the end of this month,” said Matiang'i.
Matiang'í said the construction of the project will start early next year adding that the sports complex ‘aligns with his agenda of promoting sporting activities in the correctional facilities.
Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Service in charge of sports, Catherine Ndereba, further urged the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to promote the recently feted women's volleyball team.
Ndereba said promotion will greatly motivate the players moving forward and also impact the performance of the players in the near future.
"Majority of these players have stayed long at their current ranks. Kindly promote these players so that they can continue to perform in both of their roles with even more energy and will," said Ndereba.
Ndereba also asked for training facilities since the current ones pose a lot of challenges like distance from place of work.
