A woman accused of impersonating a General Service Unit (GSU) officer is to remain in police custody for 21 more days.

Jacinta Merylin Ouma,22, pleaded guilty to charges labelled against her in Busia law courts on January 18.

Magistrate Peter Olengo authorised her detention to allow police officers complete investigations.

"Whereas it has been proven to me an oath for further investigations where the respondent is suspected to pose as a fake officer, I authorise the suspect to be detained at Bumala police station for 21 days to enable police to complete their investigations," said Olengo.

Merylin admitted to acquiring the General Service Unit (GSU) garb in the industrial area to deceive the public into believing she was a legitimate police officer.

"I bought the uniforms at an industrial area in Nairobi but the firearm I was given by a friend of mine while in Kabete police station just to take pictures with it, "she said.

She was arrested on Tuesday evening at Bukhalarire shopping centre while heading to Butula, after a tip-off from members of the public.

At the time of her arrest, she was dressed in full GSU garb holding an AK-47.

However, reliable sources alleged that she has been wandering in several police stations in Kisumu, Busia, Siaya and Kiambu.

Jacinta's arrest has left security officials puzzled as they try to determine how she acquired the GSU uniforms with a rifle despite not being a bonafide police officer.

The case will be heard on February 8.
