Kakamega ODM Nominated MCA Godliver Omondi has died while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital -Kisumu after a short illness.

Ms Omondi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being taken ill last Saturday.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the demise of Hon Godliver Omondi, a Nominated MCA of Kakamega County Assembly. She passed on while receiving treatment on Monday evening," a press release from Speaker James Namatsi reads in part.

"On behalf of the County Assembly of Kakamega, we mourn our departed colleague and send heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Hon. Omondi. We pray to God to give the family Strength and Fortitude at this moment of pain and sorrow."

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula said the former Nominated Senator succumbed to complications of high blood pressure and diabetes.

Governor Fernandes Barasa said the late Omondi championed the interests of the people of Kakamega, more so, women, youth and persons with disabilities

"She will be remembered for unseating the premier Kholera ward MCA to become the first and only woman to be elected in Matungu sub-county since the inception of devolution," he said

"On my behalf and behalf of the County Assembly of Kakamega and staff, I send our deepest sympathies to her family and pray that almighty God grants you all strength to endure this loss," he added.

She served as Kholera ward MCA on the ANC party between 2017-2022 and as an ODM Nominated Senator between 2013 and 2017, representing persons with disabilities.
