Kericho's by-election was of great interest to Kenyans as political bigwigs battled it out to marshall their supporters to vote in new senator. KANU's  Paul Sang was seen as threat to Jubilee's Aaron Cheruiyot. The mini-polls were held after Charles Keter the then Senator was appointed to become Cabinet Secretary of Energy.

President-elect Donald J. Trump comes second in the overall searches in Kenya.  Mr Trump ran his campaign on an anti-immigration platform, promising to review the US immigration policy and roll back the gains made by his predecessor president Barack Obama, who traced his roots to Kenya.

Bob Collymore did trend after he tied a knot with Wambui Wamae in a beautiful private wedding. The ceremony would become the talk of town for weeks.

Dianah Chelele topped searches folowing her death.  The popular musician from Rift Valley was found murdered in cold blood in her home in Bomet County. Her death sparking demos in the County as estranged husband was arrested and charged in court as a suspect.

The demise of Kenya's former first lady the late Lucy Kibaki in April marked the final chapter of a complicated legacy for the country's most iconic first lady.

Rumours about her health had been swirling all over social media for the better part of the last year after the former first lady dropped off public limelight and news that she had passed on in a London hospital following an undisclosed illness further fuelled the rumour mill.

The 2016 Rio Olympics, Jacob Juma, Hilary Clinton and boxer Muhammed Ali rounded up the list of top-five search queries in the country in 2016.
