Uhuru panicking over NASA, says Musalia Mudavadi

Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi has accused President Kenyatta of panic and scare mongering over his remarks that foreign powers were seeking to interfere with the 2017 polls.

In an interview on KTN News on Monday night, Mudavadi said the president's remarks during this year's Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Nyayo stadium were out of panic.

"I did not attend the Jamhuri day celebrations but keenly followed the proceedings in which the president made statements of panic and what I would consider scare mongering," he said.

President Kenyatta on Monday had warned foreign states against financing individual groups conducting civic education saying Kenyans would not take it kindly.

In his speech, the President said any foreign aid intended for the electoral systems should be channeled to the established institutions.

Mudavadi said the president had made the statement saying the country's financial systems cannot allow clandestine movement of funds from foreign states without the government's knowledge.

Mudavadi, who is now pushing for the opposition's unity under the National Super Alliance, NASA, to be formed, said most Kenyans had been frustrated by the current Jubilee administration.

He said the opposition had realized the need to work under the broader coalition to offer alternative leadership.

"If shelving my presidential bid will be the ultimate prize for to give the country better leadership, then I will do so since it is our common course," said Mr. Mudavadi.

The Amani leader revealed that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had invited him to his National Delegates Council conference to be held at Kasarani as a special guest assuring citizens of their unity.
