Nondescripts Kapkiamo and Ruth Kiptui shocked experienced schools to win volleyball titles in Baringo County Schools Games.

Both schools will take part in the regional games for the first time.

Kapkiamo defeated Kabarnet High School by straight sets of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-14 to win the boys’ volleyball title for the first time in a match that took 62 minutes.

Kapkiamo's coach Julius Melly praised his girls for a job well done and hoped to replicate the same performance at the regional games.

“It was a tough match, but I thank my playing unit for winning the title for the first time against very experienced schools,” he told Standard Sports.

Left attacker Kalnas Biwott and centre Meshack Kibet emerged as the top scorers for Kapkiamo.

On their part, Ruth Kiptui Girls needed only 59 minutes to dismiss Kabegon by another straight sets of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-9 to book their ticket to the Rift Valley Schools Games set for Hill School in Eldoret from July 8-13.

Ruth Kiptui head coach Romans Kiprop described the match as competitive, despite playing a weak opponent in the finals.

”Our focus now shifts to the regional championships and we have started earnest preparations for it,” he said.

In the boys’ football, Kamelilo overcame stiff opposition from Tenges to win 5-4 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw at the regulation time.

On their part, Mogotio Girls won girls’ football title after dispatching Ossen 2-0 in the final.

Baringo High and AIC Philemon Chelagat won boys and girls rugby 7s title after overcoming Kabarnet Boys and Olkokwe respectively.

In 3x3 basketball, Baringo High and Solian Girls won boys and girls titles after seeing-off Emining and Kapropita Girls respectively.
