Nobody ever thought Iraa Girls was a worthy opponent in the Kericho County Secondary School Games until they were called to the podium to pick up their medals.

Iraa won the volleyball and netball titles and were play-off winners in the girls’ rugby.

They defeated Londiani Girls by straight sets in the volleyball finals, having walloped former champions Kipsigis Girls by the same margin in the semifinals to snatch their first-ever volleyball title.

In netball, Iraa walloped Kipsigis Girls 51-17 in the finals to lift the trophy, having beaten Kunyak 48-6 in the semis after an excellent performance in the group stages, where they had beaten Sosiot Girls 50-14 and slapped Cheres Girls 52-7 to lead the pool on their way to the last four.

In rugby, Iraa emerged third in a competition won by Kapsoit after dispatching Kunyak Secondary in the finals.

Head coach Darius Rop credited hard work and regular training for their success.

“We kept our girls well in training and matches by observing a good diet; hence, we emerged victorious,” Rop told Standard Sports.

Kabianga and Kipsigis Girls won the boys’ and girls’ 3x3 basketball titles, respectively.
