Seven KCB Women's Volleyball Team players have been called up to the national team for the upcoming World Championship set to serve off on August 22 to September 7 in Thailand.

The seven players, who are part of the 29-member provisional squad include Marlene Tata, Juliana Namutira, Belinda Barasa, Deborah Jesang, Fridah Boke, Pauline Chemutai and Shirleen Maywa.

Speaking after the team had been named, Marlene Terry said she is looking forward to help Kenya win and fly the nation's flag higher.

"It is such a proud moment for me to be called up to the national team following a successful season with my club. I will be making my debut in the World Championship. I cannot wait to show the world what I can do. I thank coach Geoffrey for his trust in me."

The most notable omission from Malkia Striker's new head coach Geoffrey Omondi team is the ever-reliable Edith Wisa, Mercy Moim and Lincy Jeruto, who have been a mainstay of the team for many years. However, his inclusion of young players is a clear indication of the direction the team is taking.

Joining the fray will be KCB Technical Director Paul Bitok who will be traveling as the head of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) delegation. Additionally, KCB's David Kinga will be part of the squad as the 1st Assistant Coach.

"We are gearing up for a grueling competition. Therefore, we need to prepare adequately before we face the world's toughest teams. For sure, it is going to be tough but we believe in the crop of players that we have at our disposal. We back the coach and his technical team in their quest to bring glory back to Kenya," said Paul Bitok, who doubles up as KVF Deputy President.

The team will be heading to Vietnam for a week-long training camp in preparation for the global tournament.
