The battle for the first Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men's Kenya Cup title begins this weekend at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Six mouthwatering clashes are on the cards as the country's top clubs start their hunt for the title.

Ten men's teams among them reigning KVF Men's Premier League champions Kenya Prisons and Kipchumba Karori Eldoret International Volleyball Tournament winners Equity Bank will be battling it out for the coveted trophy.

Today, Equity launch their quest in A against former national league champions General Service Unit (GSU) while Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) take on Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) in Group B.

With their third leg league tie abandoned due a power outage, a showdown is looming between Equity and GSU who are looking to prove that they are indeed still a force to reckon within Kenyan volleyball.

Equity coach Patrick Owino said that they will be out for a good start as well as gauge themselves.

"The matches give us chance to gauge ourselves and see if our system and strategies are working. Our opponents are strong but we have equally worked hard and we are hoping for a good start," Owino said.

Tomorrow, Equity clash with Administration Police Kenya (APK) in the first encounter of the day while GSU will entertain Kenya Army. The paramilitary side will be looking to extend their good run against the soldiers who they beat in straight sets during their third leg league tie. GSU are the only side that remains undefeated in the league.

Trailblazers whose today's Group B match against Chema Volleyball Club was postponed will begin their campaign against KAPU tomorrow.

National league champions Kenya Prisons will play KDF in their only tie of the weekend. In-form Kenya Prisons have had a good league title defence campaign flaw being their hard fought 2-3 loss to former champions and bitter rivals GSU.
