On fire GSU seize Kenya Army to maintain perfect run in title chase

Former Kenya Volleyball Federation Men's National League champions General Service Unit (GSU) maintained their unbeaten record to affirm their desire to reclaim their title as the third leg of the 2024-2025 season ended on Sunady at Nyayo Gynasium and volleyball court.
The paramilitary outfit which is yearning to end its two-year trophy drought had no regard for the Kenya Army dismissing them in straight sets of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-21.
With the victory, GSU is the only side that has not tasted defeat. On Saturday, they dented holders Kenya Prisons' perfect run after subjecting them to their first loss in a tense five-set duel.
GSU coach Gideon Tarus exuded confidence saying that his charges will get better. "I believe that our performance will continue to improve because we are not yet at our peak. It is a gradual process and based on our output this weekend I can confidently say that we are making good progress," Tarus said.
He added that he is still working on his effective strategy and once he gets it right his side will be unstoppable.
Defending champions Kenya Prisons returned to their winning ways edging out the Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) 3-2(25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13.
Their victory did not come easy as stubborn KAPU relentlessly pushed them in the five-set thriller.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)'s fruitful visit to Nairobi ended with a straight-sets win over Western Prisons.
The victory saw the dockers return to their Coastal base with nine points from three matches.
Western Prisons on the other hand failed to build on their Saturday's 3-2 conquest against Trailblazers to secure their second win of the season. Despite putting up a good fight in all sets, they were unable to contain KPA allowing them to carry the day 25-20, 25-20 and 25-22.
Trailblazers bounced back from double loss in their past two encounters to beat the National Youth Service (NYS) 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) and remain on course to sealing a place in the playoffs.
Trailblazers, who had beaten Nairobi Prisons on Thursday, fell short against Rift Valley Prisons and Western Prisons on Friday and Saturday respectively.
Winless NYS's woes increased as they lost all their third leg matches to extend their losing streak to six matches.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) cemented their place after beating Rift Valley Prisons 3-0(25-16, 25-18, 25-23).
The soldiers had a productive weekend out, winning all their encounters without dropping a set.
They now have won four and lost one, their effort is likely to catapult them into the top eight enhancing their chances of grabbing a playoffs spot.
