GSU outclass champions Kenya Prisons to maintain a flawless campaign

Former Kenya Volleyball Federation Men's National League champions General Service Unit (GSU) on Saturday held the nerve to edge out holders Kenya Prisons 3-2 in their third leg match of the 2024-2025 season.
Bitter rivalry played out to the satisfaction of volleyball enthusiasts who remained on toes as both sides entertained them at the Nyayo Gymnasium. GSU who have suffered in the hands of their Prisons counterparts for the past two seasons showed that they meant business by taking the first set 25-19. The outcome awakened the champion in Kenya Prisons as they became more tactical to seal the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-23 for a 2-1 lead.
GSU controlled the fourth set scoring points at will to win it 25-11 and draw level. There was no looking back for GSU as they battled to secure the set 15-11, bag their sixth win and subject the warders to their first defeat.
Western Prisons finally registered their first win of the season after a series of heartbreaks. The warders from Western got the best of city boys Trailblazers to force a 3-2 victory. After losing the first set 19-25 to Trailblazers, they refused to let it dampen their spirits and fought on to take the second and third sets 25-19 and 25-21 to gain control of the game.
However, Trailblazers would recover to delay their much-needed victory by taking the fourth set 25-21. With the game at 2-2, the decisive set was tightly contested with both sides capitalizing on opponent errors to snatch points. Western Prisons showed grit to outsmart Trailblazers 16-14 and carry the day.
In another encounter, Rift Valley Prisons could not withstand Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) waves succumbing to a 3-0(25-17, 27-25, 25-14) loss. The National Youth Service (NYS) losing streak continued as they surrendered the game to Kenya Army despite taking the lead. They relented to lose the game 1-3 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21). Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) seized Prisons Nairobi in straight sets of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-18 to extend their good run.
