Champions KCB, Pipeline and Post Bank win as KVF league gains momentum

Champions Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and former titleholders Kenya Pipeline on Saturday won their respective matches as the third leg of the 2024-2025 Kenya Volleyball Federation Women's National League season got underway at the Nyayo Volleyball Court.
KCB recovered from their second leg 3-2 (25-15, 16-25, 25-20, 11-25, 15-13) loss to rivals Kenya Prisons to beat Prisons Nairobi in straight sets and chalk their second win of the season.
Kenya Pipeline on the other hand dismissed Kenya Army 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) to maintain their winning streak. The victory saw the oilers, who are looking to reclaim the title they last won in 2022, make it six wins out of six.
An elated Pipeline coach Geoffrey Omondi said that their game plan worked in their favour forcing their opponents to fall into their trap.
"We are happy we won in straight sets because the victory keeps us on top of the league. Our services were accurate, our attack combination was good and our block defence also worked very well hence the easy win," Omondi said.
Going into today's encounter against unbeaten Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Omondi said that his charges had improved on net defence and attack but they would need to be spot on in their execution.
"We have improved and wish to do even better. DCI is a strong team but we must stop them and the net and serve tough in order to contain them because every win is important," said Omondi.
Wounded from their first and second leg losses to Pipeline and Kenya Prisons, KCB knew too well that there was no room for more mistakes. They took to the court determined to rise above their struggles taking the first set 25-16 against a Prisons Nairobi side that was also yearning to secure its first win of the season.
The second set would see the wardresses put up a spirited fight but the bankers proved too strong taking it 25-17 before cruising to victory with a 25-14 score in the third set.
KCB will be looking to register their third win when they take on Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) today.
In another encounter, Postbank laboured to a 3-1 win against resilient soldiers who were not willing to go down without a proper fight. The victory saw the Postbank register their second win of the season and a possible move up the table.
Postbank put up a brave fight to snatch the first and second sets 25-22 and 25-21 before KDF recovered to grab the third set 25-22.
With victory within their reach, Postbank fought to take the fourth set 25-21 for a 3-1 victory. Postbank will be looking to crown a successful weekend out today when they take on Kenya Army at the same venue.
