Once again Kenyan clubs failed to make a mark at the Africa Club Championships that ended in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.

The best Kenyan club at the competition was Kenya Pipeline who beat rivals KCB 3-1 to finish third as Zamalek and Al Ahly battled for glory in an all Egyptian final.

Defending champions Zamalek was able to retain the title for the second year running and book their ticket to the World Club Championships.

And it was a poor show for the three Kenyan teams in Cairo. Kenya Pipeline won the bronze medal after defeating compatriots and national league champions KCB (18-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-16).

Kenya Pipeline coach Esther Jepkosgei said they had picked valuable lessons from the tournament.

“Having reached where we are, we have learnt our lessons as a team for our future matches,” she said.

KCB coach Japheth Munala though not happy with the final results was forced to accept they were not at the level he wanted.

“We just have to accept the outcome of each match as each game played at whatever level improves our future performance,” Munala said.

Kenya Prisons head coach Josp Barasa was happy with the performance of his players saying the event was tough but has also good exposure for his young players as they finished fifth.
